Cowboy Bebop: The Movie Review

Reviewed on May 30th, 2006

Visually

Visually, this is the best looking anime I have ever seen. It was designed with computers, like most anime today. It is vibrant and clear. The production crew had no deadline for the movie, so they had more time to create action shots. There are long fights with fluid animation and humanlike movement.

Audio

It's called Cowboy Bebop, but it has no bebop music in it. The show has it, for example the intro 'Tank' is a bebop style. The movie doesn't really have any jazz music, except for the intro song which is funk jazz. Jazz plays a big role in Cowboy Bebop, it emphases the sly, laid back style of the show. The voice acting fits the part; it looks like the movie was made for English voicing.

Storyline

It starts out with the Bebop on Mars, and the crew is looking for bounty-heads. Faye is after a young bounty-head, she looks for his truck which explodes as soon as she finds it. The explosion lets out a virus, with turns out to be nano-machines. A reward of 300 million wolongs is set for the culprit of the attack. A man named Vincent is the real culprit and the young bounty-head is only a handyman. The entire crew gets caught up in the mess and leads to an exciting tale. Only one problem, it's drawn out and it feels like it lasts forever.

DVD

The DVD is full of extras, including: music videos, interviews with the voice actors and production crew, conceptual art, and trailers. You can listen to it in French, Japanese, and English. Subtitles are in French and English.

Overall

This is a good movie that deserves to be watched. It has everything you need in a good movie: humor, suspense, action, and intrigue. It's rated R because of violence, but its really not that bad. This was one of the biggest anime movies in the U.S.; it actually came out in some theaters. I give 'Cowboy Bebop: The Movie' 4 out of 5.
