Da Capo Review

Visually

Da Capo is an anime based off a Dating Simulation and therefore most of the characters are cute females. However, most these females are pretty generic and have nothing that set themselves apart from other girls of the same genre.

Basically the 6 different girls the main character is surrounded with are his adopted sister, his little cousin, his sister’s tomboyish friend, his sister’s tomboyish friend’s hot sister, the shy class beauty, and a robot!

I liked the way the faces were drawn and the girls had some cool hairstyles, but I think their bodies were drawn a bit petite and they all looked kind off starved.

The two main male characters are just average Japanese school characters and there is nothing special about the way they look. Personally I liked the main character’s friend better than the main character, I thought he looked cooler and he should have been the main character.

As for the scenery, it revolves heavily around Sakura Petals (Cherry Blossoms) and most of the time it is happy scenery with pink petals everywhere. The backgrounds were done well, but there’s nothing special about them.

Audio

The voices in Da Capo were ok, but there was something that I really disliked about them. The main character in an attempt to sound romantic would try and say the girls’ names in a seductive way, but it just sounded weird. This wasn’t because he did a bad job with the voice, but because he would use this seductive tone when there was nothing romantic going on.
And the main female character Nemu, would always say “Oni-san” like she was in desperate need of help, or as if she was dieing. This got a bit old and redundant.

The Opening and Ending Credits had pretty enjoyable music and I found myself getting the Opening tune stuck in my head a few times.

Storyline

This is where Da Capo really takes a dive. The storyline of Da Capo was dull and boring. Basically they think that just because there are 6 cute girls that they don’t need a good storyline.
Nothing happens till halfway through the series (the first half is just introducing characters and building relationships) and when something does happen it’s still pretty boring.

Another thing to note is that the main female character is actually the main characters sister! They are in love with each other and this was just really weird to me since I have 2 sisters and that idea creeps me out. Although the girl was adopted, I still couldn’t get past the shock that it was his sister.

One last thing about the storyline, the main character was supposed to be a mage and basically nothing happens with his magic. Had they done something with his powers it might have been interesting, but its like if he didn’t even have powers at all.

DVD

Overall

There is nothing really special about Da Capo, it is just another anime based of a dating simulation game. The storyline is pretty dull and it actually took me a month to watch it all (because I got bored numerous times and stopped watching). I would only recommend Da Capo if you have nothing else to do and need something to pass the time, but if you’re looking for an interesting anime look elsewhere.
