Gasaraki: Volume 1 Review
Reviewed on May 30th, 2006
Visually
Gasaraki has very fluid motion, and great character design. The mechs look good, but they are not a big part of the movie. The Gasaraki looks really cool too. It has a Gundam feel with a 21st century twist. That is most likely due to the producers who have worked on Gundam.
Audio
Gasaraki has bad ass music. It is very sweet Japanese music, it is like a typical Asian sound but has a sweet twist. It has very good voice acting, some of the best I have ever heard.
Storyline
Gasaraki has a very deep and involved anime. One of the best ever; I am surprised it's not a bigger anime. It is also very complicated and you have to pay attention to every detail or you get lost. The main character is Yushiro Gowa, he has very odd abilities which are extremely complicated. He is also a mech pilot, even though he is only known as a civilian. He fights in the Middle East where big explosions have been reported. Somehow they are connected to Yushiro. Yushiro cannot remember much from his childhood. Throughout the series he learns of his past and someone else's past whom had the exact same name. Another big character is Miharu, she has a psychic bond with Yushiro. They embark on a journey to find their past.
DVD
The DVD contains 4 episodes. It also has a decent amount of extras. They include a director interview, production sheets/memos, and a glossary. The DVD is of good quality and is made by ADV Films.
Overall
Gasaraki is a mix of Neon Genesis Evangelion and Gundam. It was a smooth mix and nearly turned out perfect. It is a great anime, I bought the entire box set because I liked it so much. It's rated for 12 and up. I give Gasaraki: Volume 1, a 5 out of 5.
