Gasaraki: Volume 2 Review

Reviewed on May 30th, 2006

Visually

Gasaraki has very fluid motion, and great character design. The mechs look good, but they are not a big part of the movie. The Gasaraki looks really cool too. It has a Gundam feel with a 21st century twist. That is most likely due to the producers who have worked on Gundam.

Audio

The audio is fine, but there is nothing extraordinary going on. It's rather boring and it doesn't help the story move along that well. The music doesn't really fit in some of the parts and it's not really a big aspect of the series.

Storyline

Yushiro and the rest of his team are in Belgistan when other mechs show up and they are forced to fight them. But since there in the desert the sand screws up the mechs and the fighting comes to a stop. In one of the enemy mechs, Miharu is the pilot. She is the one that stopped Yushiro at the stage when he was performing the ceremony. After cleaning the mechs the team goes on a mission to obtain a sample of the opposing mechs. They accomplish this and they are pulled back. Then inspectors are ordered to inspect the Gowa teams base, which means they will have to leave Belgistan. But, before the team can leave Yushiro sees Miharu on TV and goes to find her. He does find her but they are chased by guerillas and people from the Symbol Corporation. The rest of the Gowa team goes after Yushiro and rescues him and Miharu, but they are chased by the guerillas and the vehicle gets stuck on some logs. Miharu then jumps out of the car and runs away, but Yushiro follows her. The Symbol Corporation the stops them and has them trapped but a car pulls up and takes Yushiro and Miharu away. Yushiro is then forced to leave Miharu and return to Japan with his crew. They have some trouble on the runway but eventually take off. In the air two fighter airplanes try to force the plane to land, but the team sends Yushiro out the back of the plane in one of the mechs. He shoots down to fighter jets and the team returns to Japan. The storyline comes together a little better this time around but is still very confusing.

DVD

There are only 3 episodes this time which really pisses me off. You get 4 in the first one, why can't you get 4 in the second one? You would think that since they are leaving off an episode they would put in some more extras, but they don't!

Overall

I was a little disappointed this time around with the lack of content in the DVD. It's a good series, but ADV seems to have made the DVD suck. If it was a little easier to understand and things moved along a little better then it would be a great series. This is definitely not an anime for the younger group or a new anime fan. It is good for the hardcore anime fans and is a good series to watch. This time around I give Gasaraki: Volume 2, 3 out of 5.
