Gundam Wing: Operation 1 Review
Reviewed on May 30th, 2006
Visually
Gundam Wing is the show that got me interested in anime. Yeah, I know what you are thinking; "Didn't you watch DBZ?!" The answer is no. Hadn't watched it till the Cell Saga first aired on Toonami. Anyway, Gundam Wing is an extremely good anime, and if you don't believe me, I guess I'll have to convince you....
Audio
Gundam Wing has probably one of the best english dubbing around. The voice actors truly express each character in there true unique way. Which makes Gundam Wing a great anime to watch.
Storyline
With high expectations, human beigns leave Earth to begin a new life in Space Colonies. However, the United Earth Sphere Alliance gains military power and soon siezes control of one colony after another in the name of "Justice". The year is AC (After Colony) 195; Operation Meteor. In a move to counter the Alliance's tyrany, rebel citizens of certain colonies scheme to bring new arsenals to the Earth disguising them as shooting stars. However, the Alliance catches on to this operation.
What the colonies send to Earth are Gundams; 5 of them. A Gundam is a mobile suit made of Gundanium Alloy. Each Gundam is piloted by teenagers with some of the BEST pilot skills ever. They are Heero Yuy (Japanese), Duo Maxwell (American), Trowa Barton (I dunno. European maybe....) Quartre Reberba Winner (Arabic) (Yeah, I know. He's whiter than me, but he's Arabic......), and Chang Wufei (Chinese), who are supplied with missions to destroy the Alliance's mobile suit factories.
On a side note of the characters: The are no black people in this entire series. Ever. I dunno why. I guess African Americans get no love.....
The enemies of the series are really, really cool. Trieze Khushrenada, the founder of OZ (the Alliance's weapons supplier), is well writen, and, to put it simply, cool. Zechs Merquise is also a cool character with exceptional piloting skills.
DVD
This DVD shows contains only the first 4 epsiodes (The Shooting Star She Saw (1), The Gundam Deathscythe (2), Five Gundams Confirmed (3), and The Victoria Nightmare (57. Erm...What comes after 3? 4? Are you sure? Fine, whatever you say....Episode 4) and contains no special features what so ever, except for the fact that the episodes are uncut.
These first 4 episodes are the introduction to the series. They introduce the characters, thier kick ass mobile suits, and thier enemies. Nothing much more than that to these 4 episodes....
Overall
The DVD is a must-see, but if you have seen the series and didn't care much for it, don't bother. This DVD has no special features. If you can download these 4 episodes, I suggest you do it soon.
