Maburaho Review

Visually

Cute girls, nerdy protagonist, hot teachers (in my opinion) don’t even begin to describe the visual aspects which outline our main characters the setting from which they are derived from. The simplicity of the lines in this series is often missed but play a crucial part in portraying such a simple storyline. One major aspect of this show is the amount of light this show gives off. Cute girls, a cute comical storyline generally has a very light feel to it but the amount of sunlight this show has is mind-blowing! Vivid colours, simplistic backgrounds and Solid colours make the basis of a story for any sex-crazed Harry Potter type school. Lovely landscapes and even lovelier ladies, this show defines the word: “eye-candy”

Audio

The opening theme song is generally upbeat throughout the whole series but can get annoying for quite a long period of time and avid anime watchers will find themselves reaching for the fast-forward button on their DVD player or simply skipping the scene on their computer. Added respects to the ending song which end every episode quite nicely with a closure feeling of comicality.

Many shows have basic and too soft background music. The case with this is there is a wide array of background music and sometimes so much that it actually drowns out one of the character dialogues. Call me contemptuous of the background music but I even had to mute the whole program together and watch it solely relying on subtitles. But hey, that’s just me.

Storyline

Sex-crazed Harry Potter type school with nerdy protagonist and beautiful, if not slightly erotic in thought girls supporting him; just about sums it up. And I’m a sucker for this type of stories.

What begins is we see a nerdy protagonist going by the name of Kazuki who just so happens to be the butt of jokes at the magical academy he goes to. Students use magic at will for the smallest of things, but Kazuki’s magic is very limited and he needs to limit the amount he uses nearly every month! One day, a girl in very revealing underwear claims to be his wife and thus Kazuki is thrown into the deep end of the pool learning that his genes hold the mega-powerful offspring and all the girls in the vicinity want a piece of it.
We follow Kazuki through missions, flashbacks of childhood and even some pretty outrageous scenes involving his dormitory, a hot spring spa (every comedy-romance nearly always has this), and even in the middle of the woods at night!
With such a hilarious storyline, it is very easy for viewers to feel light-hearted about this show and grow mentally attached to its characters. And more than likely there will be a wide range of boys arguing adamantly what girl our scrawny protagonist will end up with.

DVD

The extras on the DVD (licensed by ADV films) include an in-depth look into the Art of Maburaho, original Japanese promos for the show, six ADV previews and opening and closing credits for the show. This is exactly the type of little things that the licensing companies of anime shows add to their DVD extras section that make avid anime watchers feel and warm and fuzzy in the night. And that’s t just not counting the amount of gorgeous girls which are portrayed in the show.

Overall

This show is nothing more than a nerd who scores lucky with three beautiful girls with outrageously disproportional breasts; “too sexy for reality television” legs and faces which every grandmother would want to have a pinch at. With its lack of seriousness, this show has escalated and has showered every hormone-raging teen boy’s dream into a cute storyline with even cuter girls and the main character having a choice of between three gorgeous, if not super-model-like girls. If your hormones are raging, you like your girls busty and beautiful and your sense of logic thrown into the wind…this show is for you.
