Pilot Canidate Review
Reviewed on May 31st, 2006
Visually
The characters look good and all, but it looks like it is made for 10 year olds. The goddesses look too graphical and geo-dimensional. I really like the character designs, they're my favorite of any anime.
Audio
The music really doesn't stand out at all and I don't care for the sound effects at all. The only thing I like is the voice acting. It is good and I think it matches the character pretty good.
Storyline
The episodes are called curriculums, the first one is Curriculum 00. In this episode we meet the main characters. Zero, also know as candidate 88 is the main character. He is very excited and is fascinated with the goddesses. The goddesses are mech-like machines. They are drove by the candidates that have graduated. The candidates do not ride in them unless they are selected to ride them. That only happens after a long training process. On his first day there, Zero falls into a goddesss cockpit. He has a weird encounter with a girl.
We also meet Hiead, he is like an opposite of Zero. He reminds me of Kaworu from Neon Genesis Evangelion. He acts very odd around Zero and always wants to fight him. Finally we meet Clay, he is a total nerd. He really has no importance, other than he is training to become a pilot. In the second episode we visit zero past and his involvement with the white goddess. In the third episode Zero and Hiead get into a fight after Zero becomes conscious. He was knocked out in the goddess. Meanwhile outside there is a battle between the goddesses and a victim(the enemy).
DVD
First of all there is only 3 episodes, second there are hardly any extras and the extras that are there are crap. Another bad thing is there is no Japanese subbing, its subbing from the English version.
Overall
This is really not worth your time to watch this. It is very bad and doesn't have enough depth to really get into it. At one time it was on Cartoon Network, but it was taken off quickly. It's rated for thirteen and up. I give Pilot Candidate: Volume 1, 2 out of 5.
